[Error: unknown template qotd]I am. Unlike all of those other amateurs, no one even knew I was James Bond. They call us "secret" agents for a reason.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Definitely forward. There's so many cool things that might happen in the future which I don't expect to live long enough to see - star travel, sentient computers, honest politicians and sensible domestic and foreign policies ...

[Error: unknown template qotd]Not really - although I've come damn close. Walking down the street humming "Singing In The Rain" ... in the rain, after a couple of hours with the woman in question. Of course, we'd been exchanging emails for a few weeks before that, so it wasn't like quite total strangers meeting.

[Error: unknown template qotd]My major was computer programming - this was back before Windows and PC's were just coming out. I am a receiver - stuff is delivered to where I work and I put it away and make it available to the folks who need it. Oddly, while I mostly use a computer at work to make and print out various forms I use, I do use the skills behind programming in my job. Other than the actual physical tasks of moving objects form point A to point B, my job consists of organizing my activities - what has to go where and when. Planning a sequence of events/actions as well as setting various conditions and options is really the heart of programming computers, and warehousing. Hell, most jobs, I think.

[Error: unknown template qotd]That would be my friend Janice, just last night after an evening of s'mores and cocoa with Bailey's. Okay, sitting outside by a fire on a winter night might be silly, but it's fun.

[Error: unknown template qotd]JFK's funeral. That was November of 1963. I was two months shy of my 3rd birthday. My next earliest memory is the Beatles on Ed Sullivan which was February of 1964. Yes, I have been a Beatles fan literally all of my conscious life.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Sheesh, it'd take me the whole day just to make sure my sons knew how to ifnd and deal with bills and stuff, who to contact for what, all the complicated business of dying. Used to be so much easier. Just fall over and they rolled you into a hole. I wouldn't even have time to get to the first stage of death and dying. Sorry Elizabeth Kubler Ross. No time for existential angst in this bureaucratic nightmare we call the 21st century.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Depends on the family member. For the whole family, I like to get through a holiday without drama. We manage it sometimes - more as my kids get older and learn to deal with the issues.

[Error: unknown template qotd]This one is too easy. Raising three children and not screwing it up. Of course, I was lucky enough to have good examples in my own parents who raised five of us and did a great job. But my children are all adults, all reasonably healthy, happy and well adjusted. And they love me and tell me so. I must have done something right.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I like to think so. We'll probably have to coalesce into a single world government/association before it can happen - and even then it might take a few generations before nationalism fades away enough for "freedom fighters" and such to fade away. Then we can start dealing with real problems: crime, poverty, injustice, etc.

[Error: unknown template qotd]On the one hand, I don't believe in "destiny" - things being meant to happen. On the other hand, being atheist/agnostic, I do see the world as largely deterministic. Any real attempt at defining free will finds you bouncing between "random" and "deterministic".

But in so far as humans have the ability to make choices, I believe we can choose to love. I have done so in the past. On the other hand, sometimes nature takes over and you fall in love despite yourself. I've had that happen as well. So, no destiny, but not always a free choice either. Just as well, we don't always make the best choices, do we?

[Error: unknown template qotd]No, generally speaking, women are not treated as equals. As for changes, we just have to hope people grow up and smarten up because laws will not change the way people think, political correctness will not change the way people think. Awareness programs, sensitivity training and special "days" will not change the way people think. Unfortunately, only by those who do treat women and men as equals continuing to do so and demonstrating the advantages of it will equality for women eventually come about.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I studied computer programming in college. Now, I'm a receiver. Oddly, while the direct skills aren't much use, the meta-skills are very useful. Organization, planning procedures, determining the most efficient way of doing things - which was much more important back when I was learning programming since memory was very limited and you wanted to solve problems in as few steps as possible.
