Just back from the therapist
May. 18th, 2005 05:38 pmDid I ever mention that I have a therapist? Sort of. Well, I started out with a family counselling session for the boys and myself. Then she wanted to see us each alone. Now a second solo for me. In a couple of weeks, another group deal with the boys and that uses up the sessions UNH will pay for.
Anyway, is it normal for a therapist to jump to conclusions? This one seems to do it a lot. And I don't mean sudden insight or understanding, I mean making a wild leap at a conclusion.
Today was a great example. We were talking about when my wife first came out of the closet and how I was willing at that time for her to stay as part of the family and we would each be able to date. I mentioned to the doctor that I might have been willing to deal with this sort of situation because I know folks who are polyamorous.
Suddenly she asks if I'm looking at porno. Now how the hell did that come up? I don't see the connection. Okay, I can see how someone might, but shouldn't a mental health professional be a little more up on this sort of thing and not start quoting Dr Phil at me?
Not that she's not helping at all. It's good to have someone safe to talk to who knows how to get the ball rolling so I *will* talk. But sheesh!
