Life and other disasters
Jul. 12th, 2005 06:25 pmOkay, not a disaster, just an annoyance.
I got a flat tire on the way to work yesterday. There's nothing like standing by the side of the road at 5:30 AM to change a tire.
Except that I couldn't get the bloody tire off. Not only was it rusted on a bit, but the rim was so hot it had expanded and jammed itself on. I got the lug nuts off, but they were so hot I couldn't handle them. Did I mention that my jack has a very small foot which is a bad combination with a soft sandy surface.
Finally, I gave up and hitchhiked into town - maybe two miles of walking to a garage so they could tow my car in and change the tire for me. Luckily, I had the $35 they charged on me. Of course, I was late for work, but only about an hour.
After driving home, I checked the tire. I can't see any damage. As far as I can tell, the rim had heated up so much it melted the seal. Worse, it still heats up pretty bad. So I have to leave my car at the garage tomorrow and ride my bike to work. 10 Miles at 5 AM. Then work 7 1/2 hours and bike home.
Business as usual, this week's annoyance.
Of course, now I discover that because I oppose abortion, I'm a religious nut and an oppressor of half of the human race. Well, there you go.
