What Do You Want In A President?
Mar. 11th, 2006 06:51 amYeah, maybe it's a little early still - but campaign season starts the day after the election. I've been thinking it might be better to think of the job of president as just that: a job. And we are the human resources department trying to find a qualified candidate. So just what are those qualifications?
For me, it starts with experience. I want someone who has legislative experience so they understand the process - more than just having memorized "I'm Just A Bill". I also want someone with administrative experience, though it could be corporate or even military instead of government. As long as they had to keep *some* sort of ship on course. Some sort of background which required them to deal with people, issues and situations in more than one part of the country. Also some international experience. And above all, several years in anm actual bring-home-a-paycheck job outside of the government or down in the trenches.
Almost forgot - a clean military record, which could include no service as long as they didn't draft-dodge or pull strings.
Once that has cleared out the losers, I can start looking at their policies/opinions/politics. I applied this to the democratic candidates last time around and I think Dennis Kucinich (sp?) was the only one who came close to filling the previous experience requirements.
