Happy Saint Valentine's Day
Feb. 14th, 2007 03:45 pmThere, I said it. Are you all happy now? Can I go back to being a Valentine's Grinch? I was never good at Valentines even when I was young and soppy in love. Now I'm an old curmudgeon without a sweetheart and the whole thing annoys me.
Mind you, I did hear the most romantic song in the history of music today. (Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight." Trust me on this guys. Sing it, play it on an instrument, it has never failed to soften the hearts not only of significant others, but ex-significant others who often kept asking me to play it years after we broke up. I swear it's like magic - and it simply could not be either my voice or my playing.)
So I spent the day as I spend most work days - working. Never mind the snowstorm outside. I left for work at 5:15 AM EST when there was just a little snow around. Slippery, but not a white-knuckle ride. Heck, even the ride home which was much worse wasn't all that bad. Not a lot of traffic and most people were being sensible for a change. I'm home safe and sound, if not exactly warm.
Yeah, the furnace. I got an estimate on replacing it with what is essentially the current upgrade of the same furnace I've had all along - but improved, oh yes, and less of a maintenance-hog these days. and 85% efficient which apparently is high efficiency. Oh, there are higher. One is rated at 92% - and cost twice as much and has less of a warrant. Guess which one I'm going for?
$4760 doesn't seem that bad, I guess. Now all I have to do is finance it. Unless someone asks for a ridiculous APR, this is within my planned budget. Happy? No. Satisfied? Yeah, why not?
If you're having weather today, be careful out there. Stay home and snuggle. Watch movies - I've always found James Bond works well, romantically speaking. Probably because the movies themselves aren't that great, but there's always plenty of nookie.
