Random Nostalgia
Mar. 25th, 2008 04:06 pmMy little bedside table includes a cabinet where I have a bunch of old letter and pictures. Last night, for no discernable reason, I opened it up and leafed through some stuff. I found a printout of some old alt.callahans messages. There were several entries of the comical version of "Old Time Religion" and a long list of patrons including real names, net handles, locations and birthdays. I haven't thought much about most of these folks for years.
I also found letters and cards from folks I'd sent fireplace patches to as well as a couple of pictures they'd sent me.
Then there were the older pictures. Some from when my kids were little, like me on the beach with my older son when he was a toddler, or pictures of a birthday party. Then there were the really old ones. Stuff from my college days featuring people I haven't communicated with in years. My old prom pictures (my school did noth junior and senior proms.) I was so sure I was in love with her. I later played guitar at her wedding.
I even have a picture from my first communion, just about forty years ago. The last time I was in that church was over a year ago when I was walking with a friend, showing her the neighborhood where I grew up. When we had my dad's memorial service, I learned that my native parish doesn't even have it's own full time priest anymore but has to share one with another parish. I guess that explains the lack of French language services.
Nothing really important in there, of course. I just like to stroll down memory lane now and then. I was thinking of maybe scanning some older pictures of me to use as alternates, matching the picture to my mood. My youngest one for nostalgia, maybe my prom picture for anything relating to romance, a college shot for wierdness or friendship ( they don't always overlap - wait, yes they do. )
And maybe I'll get around to finishing the two patches I've got sitting in there and sending them on. Could be fun.
