A lovely Saturday morning
Feb. 28th, 2009 06:50 amOkay, perhaps I exaggerate. But it's a pretty nice morning. Mixed sun and clouds, temperature above freezing, no emergencies or catastrophes looming - it's about as good as I can expect and so much better than it could be.
My daughter Amanda is visiting someone in Boston, so I can get an early start on the laundry without fear of disturbing her sleep. We're still trying to get health insurance for her which seems to be terribly complicated and/or hideously expensive. Ah,well, so it goes.
My son Eric just turned 22. He's finally reached the point where birthdays are no longer special in themselves - no longer is each one some sort of special roadside attraction, but instead is just another mile marker. His job as store security for Target is about to go away (cutbacks, go figure,) so he is job hunting again. His current prospect is selling cars at a dealership in Portsmouth. That would be good because he could get his own car or at least borrow one from the dealership. My car has been getting much more use that usual, especially since Amanda's car is caput and she can't afford a new one until she fins out how much her insurance is going to cost.
My son Alex has been sick for a little over a week. He's missed work and school and is upset about both as well as being heartily annoyed by feeling miserable and weak for eight days. Also, he has to get paperwork from his doctor to convince the school that he is legitimately ill so they don't flunk him out for missing classes. God, they're strict there. Most places I know of start dropping your grades after three absences, not flunking you for two! The school work itself has been going well, but the bureaucratic bull might kill him.
And me, just chugging along as usual.
