drifting in from the kitchen as they bake teases me. Ah, the sweet promise of flaky, buttery goodness!

It was a good opening week at the dining hall. Despite having added the meat and cheese slicing operation to our kitchen (that's slicing meat and cheese and making tuna, egg and chicken salad for all of the dining halls), and of course, adding the needed product to my already limited storage areas was a challenge, but one we rose to - as usual.

(brief interruption for biscuits and laundry. we now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.)

Despite the extra work and bother this presented, things went very well all week. I think we're actually serving more meals than we were last semester which is unusual since there are usually fewer students on campus second semester. Of course, it might just be that students skip fewer meals at the beginning of the semester.

In any event, I was actually keeping ahead of things all week. Definitely unusual for opening week. Then came Friday and inventory day. There are definitely complications there which I have yet to untangle. Plus I had to break out some stuff to thaw which should not have come in frozen in the first place and that took time. And a larger than usual delivery (for inventory day) to be put away. I ended up working about 90 minutes overtime. Overtime is anathema at UNH and we usually avoid it somehow, but no way was I going to work off the clock that long and that hard, so the boss authorized it.

So a little stress at the end of the week, but not too bad. Figuring out I'm actually going to have to send the IRS more money instead of getting a refund - for the first time ever in my life - is more stressful. Well they can just wait. It may be pocket change (less than $100) but they can bloody well wait for it. Must see about claiming my property taxes. It won't get me money back, but could reduce my payment significantly.

Well, that was my week. Looking forward to an even better one next week. Take care all.
