Adventures In IT
Sep. 23rd, 2010 03:36 pmSo last year about this time I started asking for access to FoodPro(tm). This is a software package we use in the dining halls for recipes, menus, ordering and so forth. My primary need is for arranging the inventory report so that things are in more or less the same order on the sheets as they are on the shelves so I'm not flipping back and forth among thirty odd pages to find the item I'm counting.
As I said, I made this request last September, going through our unit manager. When after a few months nothing had happened, I made the request through my direct supervisor. Again, months passed. Near the end of the school year, our unit manager shifted over to another position and we got a new manager, and again I sent the request along. Then, in the summer, still not having been granted access, I went directly to the woman in charge of the system. Lo and behold, within a few days, she said I had been granted the long desired access.
So the new school year begins, and all I need is a computer to use to access the system. The computer arrives. Then it has to get connected to the network. Then there's glitches with my login/password. Then the software has to be installed on the actual computer I have access to. Today, I finally successfully logged into the system.
Apparently, I now need to have my permissions activated to actually use the features I need to use. All of this should have taken a couple of days last year. Isn't this the 21st century?
