Actually, it started off quite well. I woke up to find all of the dishes had been washed and put away and the kitchen counters and stove clean. Since I know I didn't do it and I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as pixies, this leads me to the conclusion that one or more of my children did it. Almost certainly my daughter. Alex will do dishes and cleaning when I ask him to, but he's just not one to do them on his own volition. Heck, I'm the same way myself. If I weren't the dad and keep bugging me to do them, I never would.

So I wake up to a clean kitchen. What a wonderful way to start the week!

I needed that boost. Due to some horrendous clerical error, our order with our main vendor didn't go through. This means that while I got milk, bread and produce which all come from various secondary vendors, I got no meat, cheese, frozen goods, canned goods or dry goods. A couple of hundred cases worth of stuff most likely. Now most of the stuff which should have come in today is on the menu for tomorrow, so hopefully our emergency additions will cover whatever we don't happen to have hanging around, but a lot of stuff needs a certain amount of advance preparation, which won't be easy when it shows up tomorrow. Thus, while today ended up being a light-duty day, tomorrow will be extra hectic.

Have I mentioned that Eric is coming home - probably next week or so? Yes, the Army is finally getting its act together. He's getting an Honorable Discharge. He gets two years of VA medical benefits, which he definitely needs since my insurance won't cover him unless/until he's in school full time and his hip is really bad. Constant pain. That is, when I ask him how his hip is doing, he say's "It hurts." I'm sure many of you know what chronic pain is like even better than I do. Heck, I only had to put up with my hernia for a couple of months and that made me pretty miserable.

So he'll be flying in to Portland, courtesy of the Army. They insist that if they are paying his way, they are sending him right back where they got him from - Portland Airport. Fine. Perhaps his mother will be able to pick him up there - depending on her health and the state of her car. If not, I can do Portland. It's not as bad as Boston - it doesn't scare me so much.

A final note for today. Apparently, New Hampshire's legislature is actually working on a civil union law. So far as the articles I've seen indicate, it might actually happen. I'd prefer actual marriage laws, half-equality is not equality, but at least it shows progress. Perhaps my grandchildren have a chance of growing up in a decent society.
