Another Week ends
Jan. 24th, 2009 06:26 amI think I'll get used to my new schedule. I work 6 Am to 3:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 6 to 10 on Friday. My basic job still takes only about seven hours each day, so they've added some extra chores. Cleaning stuff mostly. Lots of people have added cleaning duties because they sent our janitor to another dining hall. Just as well - she tried hard but never really caught up. And I lucked out with only getting cardboard recycling (which I did some of anyway,) trash runs and cleaning a back stairwell (plus the loading dock which was always something I did.) I didn't get any bathroom cleaning for which I am selfishly grateful.
Alex is settling into his school routine and reports that all is well so far. Of course, he's not getting a lot of work hours, but hopefully that will improve as well.
Amanda turned 25 yesterday. It hardly seems possible that I have a daughter that old, but I was 23 when she was born. That makes me - old enough to be a grandpa though I still hope to hold off on that a couple more years.
Also this past week, I managed a couple of simple repairs on my car. The mount for my third brake light had gotten broken and I managed to replace that without screwing it up. Sure, it only involved two small bolts and plugging in the light, but I've been known to ruin simple jobs like that. I'm really not very handy with tools. Anyway, encouraged by this success, I went ahead and replaced my driver side mirror which has been cracked since I bought it. That job took twice as long as it needed to because I spent ten minutes trying to find a socket that would fit and couldn't. American or metric, none I had worked. So I gave up and used my channel locks. Not ideal, but it worked, so yay me!
Beyond that, life is just chugging along the track.
