What A Difference A Week Makes
Jan. 17th, 2009 07:47 amLast week, I was on vacation and bored out of my mind. This week I'm back at work and trying to adjust to a new schedule, some additional duties and the change of faces as co-workers come and go.
Last week, Alex was a prospective student. This week, he has started classes. He has also begun a fitness program so that he can pass the physical requirements for the FBI when he graduates.
Last week, Eric was hunting for an online school. This week, he has been accepted and now gets to wrestle with the usual bureaucratic bulls of college life.
Last week, I was a pet owner. This week, I'm not, but thirteen years of habits still have me expecting Duke to be there when I come into the house. I expect him to react when I put on my coat to go outside for a cigarette. There's very little pain now, but the reflexes of always being aware of where the dog is don't go away overnight.
