I just saw a pheasant walking by the road while driving my son to work. It's only the second one I've ever seen. That's in almost fifty years in this same area. A little research showed me why. They aren't very common in Northern New England.
Coincidentally, I spotted this one no more than a couple hundred yards from where I saw the first one so long ago. Ideal location I suppose. Farms returning to woods.
It was a beautiful specimen. A male with truly vibrant color. It just struck me, seeing it walk along the road like that.
