Last night, Trish called me and said that I needed to close our old joint checking account. Seems she's declaring bankruptcy and doesn't want me to get caught in the backwash. Of course, she forgot that we had two joint accounts. The one she remembered I only used rarely and it had $17 in it. No sweat. The other one, over in Portsmouth is the one we used for paying the mortgage. I had money going into it by direct deposit every paycheck. It used to go from there to Habitat for Humanity automatically, but I cancelled that a couple of months ago. Nonetheless, this was a very active acount which regularly had substantial amounts of money ( by my standards ) in it and it could have been quite inconvenient.
So while work today was actually pretty slow, I had a ton of errands to run after work. A form to business services at the university for Amanda's tuition, then over to payroll to rearrange my direct deposit, then over to Portsmouth to close one account, home to Somersworth to close another account and deposit the remains of the Portsmouth account in my remaining checking account. It took two hours to get home when it usually takes 20 minutes. And driving in pre-holiday traffic!
Now I'm home and I intend to pretty much stay here except maybe a run to the corner store for the next four days. Unless someone has a better idea.
Yeah, my only concern now is that the house is in both of our names. Could get annoying I guess - I know nothing of bankrupcym but I expect I'll learn more than I want to know over the next few months.

Date: 2006-11-23 11:25 am (UTC)I'll have to talk to Trish and to Habitat about the house - she had already mentioned it. Just have to make sure we do it all proper and legal, y'know?

Yes, I'm belated. I just checked email. I've got a book that's eating my brain. I'm writing it. Meep, meep.
(If you want on the filter, just say.)
